Creating A Life I Don't Need A Break From
I thought this was a joke, this type of stuff doesn’t happen to me, EVER! But then I realized, it took me five whole years to make this dream come true. It didn’t just happen, I worked five whole years to bring myself to this place.
There were months where I had no idea where my next paycheck was coming from and that fear also put me in full throttle to work on my own projects and it’s where my love for community building began. I started hosting free meditation and creative art journaling experiences for people.
I didn’t just sit around waiting for life to happen to me I actually went out and created it despite all the uncertainties that I had in my life at the time. I tried new things. I invested in myself. I got out of my comfort zone.
So, here’s the secret to creating a life you don’t need a break from:
Courage, persistence, and faith.
Having the courage to do new things, and experience life in a new way that may not feel so comfortable to you. Showing up even on the days that you don’t want to and maintaining faith in the unseen. And no, these aren’t easy but pursuing a life you don’t need a break from isn’t meant to be easy.
It’s why a lot of people lead unhappy and unfulfilled lives because they’re not willing to step out of this comfort that makes them feel safe. Here’s what I’ve learned in all these years:
The universe conspires and gives you everything you ever want but only when theirs courage, persistence, and faith.
It’s 2019 and I just got fired from my job at a law firm for demanding a raise after being told I had to take on more responsibilities. Imagine that!
It was at this very moment that I realized I couldn’t continue living a life that I hated waking up to. It was at this very moment that I promised myself that I would never go back to a career, to places, and to people that no longer aligned with me.
I sat down and really asked myself, “what do you want?” and to my surprise, I didn’t know. I was heartbroken by the fact that I had no idea or direction. All I knew was that I wanted more for myself.
After this discovery I told myself I’d just try new things and see what stuck. I was a babysitter for years, I dabbled in the production world and worked long hours but enjoyed the different projects that I was asked to work in. I also did Brand Ambassador work (my least favorite) but learned so much about the things I didn’t necessarily like. I did so many things for years and had no idea what I was doing but I knew this one thing:
I want to have a career where I can work from anywhere in the world, travel the world, and help others.
Five years passed and I thought, am I ever going to feel stability? Then just when I thought things would never change came the opportunity of a lifetime. A position as a Production Associate for the Wild N’ Out show aka working as a freelancer for Paramount.
It’s not to say that this is going to be a comfortable journey (it’s not) but on the other side is the life you don’t need a break from. A life you love waking up to. A life you genuinely enjoy.
Today, I’m writing this post from a coffee shop in Medellin, Colombia. I gave up my apartment in NJ to pursue my life as a nomad and I know that none of this would’ve happened had I not been courageous, persistent, and filled with faith.
So, how do you create a life you don’t need a break from? Pursue that which brings you discomfort. Don’t be afraid to grow and change your mind. Show up for yourself despite the your fear. You deserve it!
With love,
Nataly
